Biography:
Prof. Changyong Wang is a researcher at Institute of Military Cognition and Brain Sciences of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences. He is the national distinguished young scientist, the Pearl-river scholar, expert of National “863 plan” Program Expert Group, and the chief scientist of “Important life organ engineering technology research” of the Key Program of the National Key Research and Development Program. In addition, he also serves as the director of two first-level societies, the deputy director of two second-level societies, and the standing member of several second-level societies.

He is mainly engaged in research related to tissue engineering, stem cell and neuro engineering frontier technologies. As the project leader, he has undertaken more than 20 national and military projects, and received over 60 million Yuan grants. He has published 93 SCI papers. In the field of tissue engineering basic and applied research, perfect and systematic important life organ and tissue (heart, kidney, etc.) bionic building key technologies were established. He has constructed engineering cartilage with repair ability, myocardial tissue, kidney tissue, and lung tissue, etc. Principle and mechanism of organ and tissue bionic construction were clearly illustrated. Technologies for construction have reached the international advanced level. As for the organ transplant shortage in middle-late stage diseases, engineering patch tissues and organoids used for organ transplant repair were successfully constructed in vitro, and obvious therapeutic effect in repair of animal middle-late stage diseases was achieved.

Topic title: Tissue engineering of vital organs
Abstract: Tissue and organ loss or dysfunction is one of the major hazards threatening human health, and also the most important cause of human disease and death. How to fundamentally solve tissue and organ defects or dysfunction has become an international frontier subject to be actively explored by the scientific community, especially in the field of life science. The ultimate goal of tissue engineering is that engineered products can be used to replace the tissues/organs with irreversible damage and function degradation, which enables more patients to receive timely treatment and fundamentally addresses vital organdiseases  to improve the health level and quality of life of human beings. After more than 20 years of unremitting efforts, tissue engineering research has made great progress. Tissue engineering research on important vital organs has become a new focus in the field of tissue engineering. Breakthroughs have been made in tissue engineering of the heart, liver, kidney, pancreas and other vital organs. This Article reviews the latest progress and the relevant industrialization situation of important vital organ tissue engineering researches at home and abroad, including directional control stem cell differentiation, functional bionic scaffold materials preparation, important organ in vitro building and application, and organ precise design and manufacture based on rapid prototyping and micro manufacturing technology, etc. This review could provide certain reference for important vital organ tissue engineering research and industrialization development.
