Biography:
Professor Moore received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan in 2006, 2007, and 2010, respectively.  He is currently an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University and director of the Precision Medical Instrument Design Laboratory.  Dr. Moore’s laboratory has developed and implemented novel robotic medical training systems into multiple hospitals. In addition, Dr. Moore has conducted extensive research modeling the interaction between medical instruments and soft tissue inside the body to advance medical tool design.

Topic Title: Advancing medical tool design through improved cutting-edge geometry and force modeling
Abstract: Numerous medical procedures require doctors to accurately position medical tools such as needles inside the body.  Advanced medical imaging technology can allow medical doctors to accurately plan these procedures.  However, introduction of invasive instruments into tissue creates large targeting deflections from the introduction of high cutting forces.  This talk will focus on novel methodologies to advance these medical cutting tools through improved cutting-edge geometry and force modeling.
